I am so ready to check out the new drama "Lawmen: Bass Reeves" which debuts Nov. 5 on Paramount+.

The original series stars Emmy Award nominee David Oyelowo as the legendary lawman of the Old West. The trailers for "Lawmen: Bass Reeves" look great, and I have no doubt David Oyelowo, who also co-executive produced the series, will deliver another stand-out performance.

Oyelowo's film credits include: "Selma," "The Midnight Sky," "Queen of Katwe" and is set to play boxing great Sugar Ray Robinson in the film, "Sweet Thunder."

The anthology TV series chronicles the remarkable story of Reeves (July 1838--January 1910) who was born into slavery in Arkansas. Reeves escaped to Indian Territory after being forced to assist his enslaver during the Civil War.

Officially freed by the 13th Amendment, he became one of the first United States deputy marshals west of the Mississippi River in 1875.

For 32 years Reeves hunted down 3,000 criminals--including white men charged with crimes against Black people--and once his own son. A fearsome quick draw artist, Reeves routinely rounded up dozens of outlaws at a time.

Many believe that Reeves was the inspiration for the fictional "Lone Ranger." Reeves was relieved of his duties in 1907 when the newly minted state of Oklahoma's law, made it illegal for Black men to serve.

In addition to Oyelowo, "Lawmen: Bass Reeves" stars Lauren E. Banks, Demi Singleton, Forrest Goodluck, Barry Pepper, Donald Sutherland, and Dennis Quaid. The cast also includes Shea Whigham and Garrett Hedlund as guest stars, and, in recurring roles, Joaquina Kalukango, Lonnie Chavis, Grantham Coleman, Tosin Morohunfola, Dale Dickey, Rob Morgan, Ryan O'Nan, Margot Bingham, Mo Brings Plenty, Justin Hurtt-Dunkley and Bill Dawes.

This show is the latest addition to Taylor Sheridan's growing slate on Paramount+, which includes "1923," "1883," "Mayor of Kingstown," "Tulsa King," "Special Ops: Lioness," and the upcoming series "Land Man."

"Lawmen: Bass Reeves" is executive produced Sheridan, David C. Glasser, Jessica and David Oyelowo, David Permut, Christina Alexandra Voros, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, and David Hutkin. The series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, Sheridan's Bosque Ranch Productions and Oyelowo's Yoruba Saxon and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution outside of Paramount+ international markets.

"Lawmen: Bass Reeves" is an all-new standalone anthology series and future iterations will follow other iconic lawmen and outlaws who have impacted history.
